April 20, 2013 All-Ukrainian social and environmental campaign to clean parks, squares and other places of recreation of people "Let's make Ukraine clean 2013" took place in Kyiv.
"Let's make Ukraine clean" is a community initiative of organized cleaning and greening of Ukraine, that was conducted by the youth from all over our country.
The purpose of the project, except from cleaning green belts, is to change the attitude of Ukrainian citizens to their living space and to popularize the environmental ideas within society.
National Organization of Scouts of Ukraine joined campaign as a national partner.
Scout patrols took part in the campaign all over Ukraine. They started day with a cheerful mood and willingness to do good and useful deeds. The special contribution was made by scouts from the Kiev city department of NOSU. Their work started next to the monument of Eternal Fire in the Slavy Park. Girls picked up the broom and boys reached for a shovel. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov helped scouts to achieve one of their goals, to plant spruces near the monument of Ivan Kozhedub, the Hero of the Great Patriotic War. Young people listened with interest to the Prime Minister stories about the defense of Kiev during World War II. He shared memories about his childhood, when he also planted trees as a service to society. In conclusion, Mykola Azarov wished young people to bring on next year spring campaign 4 millions of scouts.
Then scouts went to the Mariinsky Park and joined the cleaning of the slopes of the Dnieper. Working together as a team scout patrols quickly and cheerfully handled the task. It was not that easy due to the great deal of garbage remaining after the winter. Each scout group collected more than 20 sixty-liter bags of trash.
Scouts are grateful to all the organizers of the campaign "Let's make Ukraine clean" and to the Charitable Foundation "Open hearts of Ukraine" for the opportunity to participate in this honorable deed!
