Scouts have paraded down the main street of the capital of Ukraine in honor of the centennial of the first Ukrainian Scout Oath

On April 21 about half-thousand of Ukrainian scouts were parading on the main street of Kyiv — the capital of Ukraine. In such a way boys and girls celebrated 100 years from the date of the first Ukrainian Scout Oath, which had taken place in April 1912 in Lviv (Lvow).

The event was held in Kyiv in two stages — the official opening according to all the scout traditions and game-quest "100 Years of Scouting in Kyiv". During the quest, participants learned that Kyiv has taken an important place in the world and national history of Scouting. In particular, the first scout troop in the city was formed as early as 1911, Kyiv is the hometown of the Chief Scout of Russia — Oleg Pantyukhov, place of birth of the Jewish scouting, the center of the development of the Polish scouting (harcerstwo) in the East and it was the place where back in 1915 the first group of Girl Scouts in Eastern Europe was established.

Centennial celebrations will go on throughout Ukraine during the year. The closest of them — the Ukrainian Centennial Scout forum which will be held on April 28 – May 2, 2012 and will bring together 1500 participants from all regions of Ukraine, as well as scouts from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Russia and other countries. 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Scouting is being celebrated in Ukraine at the state level: the relevant decisions were taken by the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine as well as local authorities.
